Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of MicroStrategy, has shared his company’s plans to release Bitcoin Lightning Network-powered software and solutions in 2023. The Lightning Network is a layer-2 payment protocol layered on top of Bitcoin’s blockchain that allows for off-chain transactions, raising payment throughput and lowering transaction fees.

MicroStrategy is exploring software and solutions that utilize the Lightning Network, such as solutions that “support” enterprise marketing as well as a cybersecurity solution aimed at corporate websites. The company has been looking to beef up its Lightning Network-versed team, most recently announcing it was looking to hire a software engineer to build a Lightning Network-based software-as-a-service platform.

In April 2023, Saylor integrated Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into his corporate email address, allowing anyone to send BTC to him using his company email address as an identifier. MicroStrategy is also working on a product aimed at delivering a Bitcoin wallet and Lightning address to every corporate account holder, enabling quick and easy development and deployment of Bitcoin rewards applications to employees, customers, prospects, and partners.

In a YouTube video, Saylor expressed his belief that Bitcoin and the Lightning Network will transform businesses and national cybersecurity.
